Lying on the southwestern tip of the North Island, New Zealand’s capital city enjoys a superb location, framed by bosky hillsides and built around a wonderful harbour. Called the ‘coolest little capital in the world’ by Lonely Planet, who named it the fourth in their list of the Top 10 Cities to Visit in 2011, Wellington has firmly established itself on the tourist map in recent years, thanks in large part to the recognition it has received overseas as the home town of acclaimed ‘Lord of the Rings’ director Peter Jackson.
The cultural and artistic hub of New Zealand, Wellington possesses a vast range of quality restaurants, as well as a number of bars, galleries, shops and theatres. Rather surprisingly it also has more cafés per capita than New York City. Throw in an almost obsessive love of sports and overall relaxed, laid back attitude and you have a destination that you will instantly take a shine too.
All told there is a very good overall standard of hotels in Wellington to stay at. If you are planning a visit there below is a list of Ten Wonderful Wellington Hotels we are happy to recommend.
